Useful resources
These are the outside sites we expect readers to use alongside our guides. They are official or long-established public services. We do not control them, and a link is not a booking partnership.
- VisitBritain publishes official inspiration and practical visiting advice for England, Scotland and Wales aimed at people planning a trip.
- VisitScotland is the official site for regions, islands, events and seasonal advice in Scotland.
- Visit Wales covers the Welsh coast and national parks if your trip continues west of the places we currently guide.
- National Rail is the planner for times and engineering works. Check it the day before you travel, not only when you book.
- Traveline plans local bus journeys, which matters in coastal towns where the railway station is not next to the beach.
- Met Office is the forecast that should decide ferry days, cliff walks and whether a sea-wall hotel is a pleasure or a storm watch.
- National Trust looks after many of the headlands and houses mentioned in our coastal guides, including Baggy Point at Croyde and the woods at Formby.
- English Heritage runs staffed historic sites across England, with opening times that change in winter.
